Eliza Thompson House

5 West Jones Street, Savannah, GA 31401 (912) 236-3620 or (800) 348-9378

With its original hardwood doors, moulding and garden restored to perfection, The Eliza Thompson House B&B welcomes guests with elegance and authenticity. Visitors to the inn now have another glimpse of days past, as the mantle and wall behind the parlor fireplace were recently restored.

Recently, a beautiful heart of pine wall and hearth were discovered underneath layers of paint and plaster in the parlor, an area of the house added by Eliza in the 1870s. The heart of pine wall was being stripped of paint and plaster and was refinished to restore historical authenticity and charm to the inn.

“The wood around the fire place is beautiful,” said Susan Powers, innkeeper.  “by restoring the wall and hearth to its original design, we’re completing part of the picture of the actual home where Eliza Thompson lived 161 years ago.”

Linda and David Glickstein, travelers and publishers of The Discerning Traveler, have provided this excellent overview of Savannah.

The Eliza Thompson House's Elopement Ceremony Package ($759)

A Very Simple and Elegant Ceremony for Just the Two of You
Featuring the Basics:  An Officiant, A Champagne Toast and a Romantic Room for Two Nights

Jones Street is one of the prettiest residential streets in Savannah, and The Eliza Thompson House is a perfect choice for a true Savannah-feel for your elopement.   Simple, personal and elegant will be how you'll describe your private wedding here.

We'll take care of the details, including the setting, the officiant, the toast, the accommodations, wedding-night turndown service and  breakfast.   You just arrive, arrange your marriage license, and be prepared to be pampered in this elegant 1847 home on Jones Street.

The Setting:
Our parlor is a popular choice for ceremonies.  The two of you and your officiant will likely select in front of the mahogany fireplace for an intimate ceremony.  But there's also a lovely picture window over-looking our garden courtyard that makes a very nice backdrop for your wedding.  It's our incredible Garden Courtyard, however, that usually is chosen by brides and grooms.   No matter which location you select at the inn, you may have your ceremony any day of the week, excluding Saturday.  The ceremony time options are between noon and 2:30 in the afternoon (our quite times at the inn).       ----  Visit our "Celebrating Occasions" Page for more information.

The Officiant:
We'll arrange the officiant for the ceremony.

The Toast:
A chilled bottle champagne for your first toast together as husband and wife.    Also, you'll take home a pair of keepsake champagne flutes etched with The Eliza Thompson House logo for future anniversary toasts!

The Accommodations:
Two nights in one of our most romantic rooms.  Our most popular rooms are located in the Main House:  The R. Bruce, The J. Stephen or the Lindsay Room are guest favorites.   As our guests, you'll enjoy evening cordials and hors d'oeuvres and night time sweets.  Call us with your elopement date, and we'll check our availability to ensure the best room in the house for you!

The Romantic Turn-down Service:
Both the Bride and Groom will feel spoiled by our extra-special elopement turn-down service. We'll soften the lights, gently straighten your suite, and turn back your linens.

The Breakfast:
Enjoy a delicious breakfasts in our courtyard on both mornings during your stay.

  • We do welcome your wedding photographer, and hope your ceremony at The Eliza Thompson House will become a favorite in their wedding portfolio.  We invite your photographer to submit one of the best images for publication here on our website.  Need a photographer?  We'll be glad to assist with recommendations.
